Accommodation in Newcastle upon Tyne can be found in the city centre as well as in its surrounding areas. The city's hotels, bed-and-breakfasts, and apartments are good for short- or long-term stays for visitors travelling alone or with their families.

Hotels and Accommodation

Newcastle upon Tyne offers a vast selection of accommodation for travellers and visitors. This accomodation is located in the city centre and in the surrounding areas, and is composed mainly of huge luxury hotels and inexpensive hotel chains. Newcastle hotels are typically busy during the work week due to the influx of business visitors. For this reason, some hotels offer Friday and Saturday night discounts.

Visitors are advised to book their accommodation in advance, especially during the winter and early spring to summer months.

Student Accommodation

Freshmen students are guaranteed a spot in university accommodation. However, they must be studying in the university for a full year and must be residing in an area far from the university. University accommodation can be catered or self-catered. Catered accommodation means that the university will provide you with your meals, while self-catered means you are responsible for your own meals and house cleaning. Henderson Hall and Castle Leazes Hall are the catered halls. Most of the rooms have computers with internet connection, washbasins, wardrobe, bed, desk, chair, bedside locker, bookshelves, and bedside lamp. Shared facilities include bath and showers and kitchens.

Self-catered flats are located in Marris House, Richardson Road, St. Mary's College, Leazes Parade, Magnet Court, Browsden Court, and Windsor Terrace. These flats offer students the freedom to eat whenever and wherever they want, and are conveniently located near the university and alongside nearby shops.

Students are advised to bring their own bedding, towels, cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils and other personal appliances like television and radio.
